I do remember my father making a big deal out putting me to bed by telling all my stuffed animals and dolls that it was time to go to bed and no more play time. I didn't understand why he did that and he stopped it when I moved into my big girl bed. When my own daughters were born, I realized why he did it and started the same procedure. I now do it with my grandchildren - anything to get them to stop playing with their friends and to go to sleep! Please don't give up on your abilities. I can give you a suggestion for making it a little easier to block when you need a break. Imagine a brick wall going up, one layer at a time, until it covers you. For some, it may take more than one wall to protect yourself from seeing what you don't want or need to see. My one daughter uses lego blocks (NOTE: she has a shipping trunk full still and won't let her daughter claim them). She likes them because they interlock and she can easily rebuild to add interlocking layers if she needs to. I will send a private note on how to contact me. I was lucky in that I had some excellent teachers when I was young. Remember these abilities were given to you for a reason. They make you special, not different or wrong. Take care.
